"SEATTLE – The teen suspected of sexually assaulting and murdering a 6-year-old Bremerton girl was formally charged Friday.
A Kitsap County Superior Court judge found probable cause to charge Gabriel Gaeta, 17, with aggravated first degree murder and aggravated rape in the death of Jenise Wright.
The Kitsap County Prosecutor's office said a psychological evaluation for Gabriel Gaeta, 17, has not been completed. A competency hearing is likely to be set in the next two weeks.
Court documents say Wright was found dead in a wooded area near her mobile home park. Her body was found covered by a wood pallet and almost fully submerged in a muddy bog. It appeared that her body was moved between a half-hour and three hours after she died, according to the probable-cause statement.
Court records say the 6-year-old died of blunt-force trauma to the head, and there was evidence she was strangled.
Forensic evidence analyzed by the Washington state crime lab linked the clothing to Gaeta's DNA, according to investigators. The sheriff's office collected DNA cheek swabs from dozens of nearby residents during the investigation, including Gaeta.
Wright was reported missing a day after she was last seen by her family in their mobile home. Her body was found four days later.
Two of Wright's siblings were removed from their home by Child Protective Services during the search. According to prosecutors, Jenise's parents have now regained custody of their children."
